SSVF
The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program at Cornerstone helps low-income veteran households across South Dakota who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Through housing support, case management, and financial assistance, we help veterans find stability and independence.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program provides homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing, and short-term financial assistance to help veterans and veteran families stabilize or transition into permanent housing. This program is designed for veterans who need temporary support to regain stability and move forward independently.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, SSVF serves veterans statewide through offices in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Veterans receive personalized case management and connections to Cornerstone Rescue Mission programs and a broad network of community resources.
Support may include rental and utility assistance, security deposits, childcare, transportation, and other critical services—all focused on helping veterans achieve housing stability, employment, and long-term self-sufficiency.

VETERAN'S HOUSING
Veterans experiencing homelessness in Rapid City may be referred to a dedicated veterans wing within the Men’s Mission. This space is reserved exclusively for veterans and provides a supportive environment while they work toward long-term housing stability.
The veterans wing includes fourteen bunk beds, a refrigerator, microwave, television, coffee machine, and a small area for rest and relaxation.
While staying in this wing, veterans have access to Men’s Mission resources, including three meals a day, case management support, and spiritual care through the on-site chapel.

How Eligibility Is Determined

After years of instability, addiction, and barriers to housing, Frank found himself back on the streets with few options left. Through persistent advocacy and continued support, he was able to secure housing and begin rebuilding his life.
Today, Frank remains housed and is taking steady steps forward—working toward treatment, stability, and a future that once felt out of reach.

“At Cornerstone, through our SSVF program, we serve those who serve us—walking alongside veterans with dignity, housing stability, and the support they need to rebuild.”
