CSRM Volunteer Program

FROM DEBBIE'S DESK . . .

At Cornerstone our staff and volunteers are dedicated to enriching the lives of the homeless in our community. And in honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 27 to May 3rd, we are dedicated to showing our appreciation for those who give so unselfishly of their time.

Everyday a phone call or an online inquiry comes in from someone in this community, and sometimes from individuals or groups outside our community, who want to know how they can help. It is an honor and a privilege to serve in this ministry alongside volunteers who faithfully give of their time and talents. The following are just a few of the volunteers who have shown us how much they really care:

Bonnie and Leonard Bertsch each bring their own unique talents to the mission. Bonnie volunteers as a receptionist at our men's mission two days a week. Her husband Leonard loves to work with furniture and provides some much needed repair to chairs and dressers and other items that need a little sprucing up at his shop at home.

Tabby is our thrift store receptionist and does a variety of things to help our staff, including scheduling donation pick ups and appointments with local agencies to provide clothing and household items to their clients.

Tom Parson and Melanie Karp donate their time by picking up donations from local grocery stores and bringing the items to our kitchen.

Judy Cranford teaches a Bible study at the Women and Children's home and is helping us gather silent auction items for our annual Bird and Bison fundraiser.

Our ministry grew so fast this past year and we are in need of volunteers for positions that are open right now and in areas that aren't yet developed. But as we continue to grow we begin to see the needs. For example, last month we had a pediatrician and a retired school administrator come to our volunteer orientation and ask how they could help. The
pediatrician is now driving for us and the retired school administrator is going to help families living at the Cornerstone Apartments with their budgets.

Volunteers may come to our Ministry with a special contribution in mind and then after some exploration of what God has placed on their heart they discover why God has called them to our organization. So if you've noticed a slight tug on your heart strings and you think you are supposed to join us please call 718-8712 and ask for Debbie Pack.
